THE ST. MICHIEL AREA

Our 3 hour guided tour brings you deep into Curacao’s forest covering an area that belongs to plantation house ‘Wechi’, plantation house ‘Groot Sint Michiel’ and plantation house ‘Malpais’.

The tour starts at the headquarters of E-Nature Tours in Julianadorp from where we head into the forest in the area of plantation house Groot Sint Michiel. This area will take you back in time where enslaved Africans worked on the land. Experience among others the ‘Calabash Forest’, a magnificent ‘high point view’, the ‘Mango Hub’, Sami Liber and and a ‘Salt Lake’ full of wildlife. See crabs, sea birds and especially flamingo’s in their natural habitat and experience the different faces the flora and fauna that Curacao has to offer. At every stop there will be enough time to take pictures and make video’s. Going forward we will enter the area of plantation house Malpais and eventually reach the popular ‘Kokomo Beach’ for a 30 minute stop to rest, relax, drink something at the beach bar or even take a quick dive into the Caribbean sea.

After the stop the tour continuous back towards Sami Liber from where we will take a different route back to our headquarters. This route will lead through the area belonging to plantation house Wechi. Here we will make a stop at a natural ‘dam’ that during the rainy season fills itself up with rainwater and attracting all kinds of birds and other wildlife. Towards the end of the tour you will have a moment of reflection in order to connect the past to the present and to the future.

IMPORTANT DETAILS!

This tour is not for everybody! For safety reasons this tour is only suitable for those who are 100% healthy and firm/steady on their feet. Participants need to have strong knees and have a good feeling for balance as you will be in a standing position on the quad bike for at least 2.5 hours. Participants need to be agile and flexible and able to react quick to continuous changing offroad conditions. Participants need to have sufficient strength in their fingers, hands and arms in order to handle the forces on the steering bar due to the torque of the electric motors that propel the quad bike forwards. All participants get an elaborate explanation of all features of the quad bike and how to handle the machine in offroad conditions. It is important to know what the ‘do’s and don'ts’ are for safety reasons and to prevent injuries. We also set out a elaborate test circuit where all participants will be tested on their ability to handle the quad bike based on instructions of the tour guide. If by judgement of the tour guide a participant fails to successfully complete the test circuit or the participant is too insecure in handling the quad bike, the participant will not be allowed to do the tour.
